BEATING STRESS

Hello!

For the last few weeks I've been hearing in class that you are stressed! As I don't want you to feel tired or stressed out, here you have some advice on how to beat stress.

Click on this link and listen to the article called BEATING STRESS.

Then answer the questions below and post them as a comment under this task.

1) Is your everyday life tense and stressful? How do you relieve and reduce stress?

2) Do you find the 'STRESS' theory helpful? Which action is the easiest for you to practise and why?

3) It is said that stress is also a motivating force to drive you to do better. What do you think?

I hope you can forget about stress now!

Regards,

Sílvia

  1. 1. Is your everyday life tense and stressful? How do you relieve and reduce stress?

Yes, it’s. I’m a person very nervous and very easy stressful. You can ask it to any of my friends and they will answer that.
I watch TV to relax myself; because I think it don’t make you think about your problems, work and something that could stress you.
Smoking is something bad, but sometimes it helps you to relax immediately.

    2. Do you find the 'STRESS' theory helpful? Which action is the easiest for you to practise and why?

I really think so, because if you do something the text show, like play some instrument or sleep well, that can relax you, because you don’t think about the things that make you feel badly and tense.
It’s true that sometimes I had had a lot of exams and work and I had slept soon and the next day I felt really better than previous day.
The easier thing for me it could be sleep well, because it doesn’t require many efforts and everyone loves sleeping.

    3. It is said that stress is also a motivating force to drive you to do better. What do you think?

I don’t think so. This is false, because you want to keep out your work and stress from you very fast and you do everything quick and badly and thinking that it’s well done.
The best thing that you can do is relax yourself, listen to good music or something that could relax you.
When you get more calmed, start to work again and you will do the things very better.
    RELAX, TAKE IT EASY. :)

  4. 1. Yes it is. We have a lot of work in the high school this year and I don't have tome for do all the homework at home. For this reason I become a very stressful person but I change in the weekends because I don't have this pressyre and it's perfect for me because I can relax. When I'm sometimes nervous and stressful, I play the guitar. It helps me! And I listen a relax song and then I play it.

    2. Maybe yes, because it's a theory that someone studied or practice it.
For me the best action I think that it's the second, because do some hobbie that I like helps me a lot during stressfuly moments.
The best for me is listen a relax song and then play the guitar playing this song.

    3. And don't think so. I think that if you are nervous and stressful you don't do the things good. When I'm stressful I don't concentrate to do all the things and I sometimes don't do all the work, and some work that I do it's bad. You know, if you are relax you do the things better and you are more motivating for do it.

    1) Is your everyday life tense and stessful? How do you relieve and reduce stress?

It depends, sometimes it's a bit stressful if we have a lot of exams or homework (or both) and on the other hand if we don't have homework it's more relaxing. To reduce my stress I usually have a coffee, I knot that it's said that it causes the opposite effet, but I love coffee and having a cup helps me a lot, especially when you are preparing it because you have to take your time and it's a moment that you can disconnect from homework.

    2) Do you find the 'STRESS' theory helpful? Which action is the easiest for you to practise and why?

Yes, I think it's really clever. The easiest actions for me to practise are sleeping and smiling.

    3) It is said that stress is also a motivating force to drive you to do better. What do you think?

I think that in a way it's true, because if you feel stressed you force yourself to do all the work and finish everything not to feel more stressed, but on the other hand if you are really stressed it can't be good for you, because you'll feel like you haven't got time for anything.

  8. .In one hand I'm really stressed because I have a lot of work and exams and I don't have time for everything. I also need time to research project... I am very nervous!
But on the other hand, I think it's question of organizing and find free time. I, to reduce stress, I like doing sports like football. Do not think with their homework or exams, but thought to play a football game.

    2. I think it is best not to think about your worries, sleep well and above all, smile!!

    3. I think that is false, at least in my case. As for me, stress makes me get nervous and do not feel like doing anything.
On the contrary, I think stress helps to discourage people.

  9. 1) I can say that my life is quiet but sometimes is tense and stressful because I have to do the homework, the housework, go to work,… however I’m a quiet person. To reduce my stress I call my friend or I speak with my dad or I go to a special place that relaxes me. Also it is said that do sport is good to feel yourself better.

    2) Yes, it’s helpful because these actions are useful to relax. The easiest action for me is shouting and putting my stress out and after this I feel better and I smile.

    3) Yes, I agree because when you are doing a thing and it’s wrong, you become to stress because you want to do it right. In this way is motivating because you try once, twice and all the times you need until you finish it well.

  10. 1) Is your everyday life tense and stressful? How do you relieve and reduce stress?

My life is a little stressful because I do many activities, for example, I play basketball, I play the drums with the "Gegants de la Cellera" and the "Daibles de Puigdafrou", I play the piano, for pleasure, I’m a instructor with the boy scouts, I babysit for two girls ...
But many of these things help me to make my life less stressful and to have a good time.

    2) Do you find the 'STRESS' theory helpful? Which action is the easiest for you to practice and why?

I think that the “STRESS” theory is helpful because, some of the things that it tells us, are really true, because in our life we need relax, eat healthy food, do sport, smile…these are important things for our lives.
These actions are easy but the easiest to follow is eating healthy food all you need to do is choose the right food! It isn’t difficult.

    3) It is said that stress is also a motivating force to drive you to do better. What do you think?

I think that if you have a very stressful life, you don’t feel like doing things better because you get tired of these things, and every moment you have less motivation to do these things and want to stop doing them sooner.
But, stress might motivate you to do things better, it’s a theory.

  11. 1. Well, my everyday life isn’t very tense or stressful, some days when we have a lot of homework or some exams in a week it might be. If it happens, I usually take a breath and focus my mind in that, and I also do yoga and jogging which makes me feel very relaxed and take all the stress off my life. On the other hand it’s really good to just lay on the bed and think about my things for a while to refresh my mind and then back again to work.

    2. Yes, I thing this teory is really good because she gives you six advises very helpful and easy to remember with the six letters from the word “STRESS”. In my case, I think I practice more or less all the actions, beginning with the S, if I haven’t got much time but many things to do, I prefer to do the most important things first and then, if I haven’t got enough time I have to forgot the things that I couldn’t do or just left them for another moment. I also treat my body well doing some exercise that I’ve explained in the point before, and of course I try to eat healthy food despite eating out of my house two days a week. Relax is very important too, how I’ve said before I try to relax focusing my mind out of the problems. By the way, I think I sleep hours enough, seven or eight hours per day is enough, so if I sleep more I feel more sleepy and tired. Finally smile is the best action, I spend a lot of time laughing with my friends and it’s the best therapy to forget your problems, be happy and see the funniest side of life.

    3. I think that it’s true, but with moderation. Being a bit stressed could make you more attentive and you’ll have more attention for some things, but if you got too much stress then it will be worst and you will feel so tired and maybe depressed because you might feel that you couldn’t do all the things that you want to or that you have too much things to do.

  12. 1)My life is tense and stressfull depending the periods of the school, if they're a lof of exams or not.., if I have to do lots of homework with not enough time...etc.
My way to reduce the stress more quickly is stressing more, and by this way you'd probably beat the stress more quickly because you're more worried about it and you want to get over it faster.

2)I think that the "stress theory" is helpfull if you do it strictly. If you're convinced that if you do some sport or you find a new hobby might take over your stress... try it.
The action for beating my stress that it would be more easy for me, It might be wpending more time with my pet, because with my cat "Nona" I have a great and enjoyable time without going out of home.

3)I think that is completely true that the stress motivates you to do it better. Is the theory that I always follow. I am a person who becames stressed very quickly with no much reasons for it and I cannot apply any of this theorys "for beating the stress" because if I'm trying to comply some of these theories I always think that I'm wasting time.

    1) Is your everyday life tense and stressful? How do you relieve and reduce stress? - Yes, I think so because this year we have to do a lot of work, exams, homework...I haven’t enough time and sometimes I go bed very late. – Probably I could reduce my stress. Using a lot of remedies, for example I can drink a big glass of tea and watch TV, like this I forget all the problems. Also I can listen music and smoke a cigarette although it’s healthier the other way. .

    2) Do you find the STRESS theory helpful? Which action is the easiest for you practice and why? - I find the STRESS theory helpful because it enumerates simple ways by which one can cope with stress. It has great insight and gives concrete examples on dealing with stress. We don't need to spend large amounts of time and money to relax. – It’s possible that the easiest action for practice the stress does not exist, because everybody can stress using different ways.

    3) It is said that stress is also a motivating force to drive you to do better. What do you think? I’m disagree strongly with this sentence. Stress helps you to do the homework worse or study with more pressure.

  15. 1. Well, my everyday life it's a littles tressful because, a part of all the homework and exams of the high scool, I also have to help at home and work on Saturdays in a restaurant. However, I think that when I'll be older, my life it will be more stressful.
To reduce my stress I like to ride my horse, because when I'm on him I feel free and comfortable.

    2. In my opinion, I think that the theory of the 'STRESS' is very useful to reduce some stress and feel comfortable. In my case, I think that I practise all the 'letters' of the theory. Usually, when I feel tired or stressed I try to relax doing some sport or reading something. In addition, I try to sleep seven or eight hours, no more because I feel tired and no less because I feel asleep.
Finally, smile is a good action to beat the stress and also to keep you out wrinkles!

    3. I think that being a little stress is a good feeling to do things in a quicker and better way. In spite of this, there are some people that when they feel stressed become nervous and they do things wrong.
Regardless of all that, I think that you have to do your best and never give up!

  16. These are Elisenda's comments:

    1. No, my life is not stressful but when I have an exam I get a bit nervous. When I get nervous, I lie down on my bed and listen to music and I close my eyes. Also, when I get nervous or stressed I speak to my mother and she helps me and she gives me tips.

    2. I find the STRESS theory helpful. I think that for me the easiest action is speaking to my family. I also think that trying to solve disagreements with your friends is very important, because later you might worry and become stressed.

    3. I think that stress is a motivating force to drive you to do better but sometimes stress is bad because you want to do a lot of things and you don't do anything. I think doing things slowly and calmly is better.

  17. These are Laia's comments:

    1. I'm not stressed every day but mostly during the week, for example when I have to go to extra classes. I arrive at home from school and I have to do a lot of homework or I have to study and I haven't got time to do everything and then I go to bed very late doing everything I have to do.

    2. Yes, I think that the theory of stress helps, but it is difficult to apply because sometimes you do not have time for everything. Maybe the things that you have to cannot wait even if you don not like it. But I like doing the things that I want to relax me. I have checked that sleeping more than 7 hours makes me feel tired. The easiest for me is sleeping or playing with my dog, because I like it and relaxes me very much.

    3. I don't think so, because if you're stressed when you do things you have to go faster and you don't do it well, because you are thinking about finishing one thing that you have to do in order to do another thing.

  18. These are Fara's comments:

    1. If I say no, I lie. My everyday life is tense and stressful, especially this year. It's my last year and like it or not it's hard. To reduce stress, I play the piano. When I play the piano I'm very relaxed and quiet. Sometimes I also to to "magma" with my boyfriend, this is one of the things that I find most relaxing.

    2. I don't think so but this is my opinion. In order not to have a so stressful life, I have to do the things that I like and must not do the things that other people recommend me.
As I said before, playing the piano. I don't have to go out of my house, I play it when I want, and I can't ask for anything more. I love playing the piano.

    3. I don't think so. The more stress you have, the worse you do things. I only think about finishing all the things and don't think about doing them well.

  19. These are Arià's comments:

    1. Well, personally I think it depends if it is a day when I have homework, exams and other things, then it is quite stressful, because apart from the school homework you also have to do other things. But if it's a calm day, without much homework or anything, it is not stressful. It must be said that this type of stress is different from other types of stress like going to the centre of Girona.
You can do many things to reduce stress, including the six that are mentioned. I think that you have to do activities which help you forget and not think of anything, things that you like. For example, going hunting, going mushroom picking, horse riding, or riding your motorbike or bike.

    2. Yes, I think it gives us a new concept of stress and helps us beat stress easily through six different ways. It is a very curious way of finding a positive meaning to a word which is negative. The easiest one for me is the second "S", "to sleep", because it is something that you do everyday without effort, and you can relax, too.

    3. In any case I think it is probable that a lot of stress can make you feel that you have to do more things and finish all of them and then relax once and for all.

  20. These are Carla's comments:

    1. My daily life is not quite stressful. There are times when I have lots of work, I do many extra school activities, and sometimes I need time to myself. The way that it makes me reduce stress is to talk to my friends. Another way is to stop working and watch TV.

    2. I think the theory of stress is very useful. Of all forms of beating stress that the text tells us, I use all the ways, but eating healthily is very difficult for me because when I'm stressed I eat very unhealthy food.

    3. I think stress helps a lot to improve my day. You are stressed with work but you can also practise sports and eat healthy food, which is very rewarding.

  21. These are Pol's comments:

    1. Not so much. I'm a really quiet person, I think that stress isn't good for your health. The best way to reduce stress is taking life easily and slowly.

    2. Yes, because stress gives us another way to understand this stressful world. Sleeping is the action that I've been practising all my life.

    3. No, of course. Stress can only make you feel helpless and make you do your work badly and worse.

  22. These are Aina's comments:

1 - Some days I feel so stressed when I arrive home! School days are very stressful and I feel very tired.

To relieve and reduce stress I have a shower with very hot water and I stay under the stream of the shower for a long time.

2 - Yes, I think that this theory is very original and helpful. Scheduling, treating our body well, relaxing, not to have too many expectations, sleeping and smiling are very important actions to beat stress.

The easiest action for me to practise is sleeping because when I'm in bed I get very relaxed. My stress disappears and I feel so good.

3 - I disagree with this statement. When I feel stressed I haven't got much motivation. In order to do things better, I need to feel relaxed.
